Quadra GStreamer SDK Installation

Current Release

SDK Release: v5.9.0
VPU Firmware: v5.9.0
Supported Versions: 1.22.2, 1.24.4, 1.24.9, 1.26.2, 1.28.1, 1.28.2

For example GStreamer pipelines and NETINT plugin details, see APPS 610 GStreamer Integration with libxcoder.

For installing the NETINT GStreamer plugins from the public repositories with an existing supported GStreamer installation, see the GStreamer public repository installation page.

Download the Quadra Release Package

  1. Download the Quadra release package from the NETINT Quadra documentation.

  2. Copy the package to your server and unzip it.

    unzip Quadra_V*.zip

Scripted Installation

The Quadra quick installer is the recommended method when installing GStreamer from the Quadra release package.

warning

libxcoder must be installed before installing GStreamer and the NETINT GStreamer plugins.

Check the Meson Version

The Install OS prerequisite packages option may install the Meson version provided by the Ubuntu package repository, typically at /usr/bin/meson.

The quick installer invokes meson using the current shell PATH.

Before building GStreamer, check which Meson executable is active:

which meson
meson --version
type -a meson

If the active Meson version is too old, install a newer version with pipx:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y pipx
pipx install meson
pipx ensurepath
export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"
hash -r

If Meson is already installed with pipx, upgrade it instead:

pipx upgrade meson
export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"
hash -r

Verify the active Meson executable and version:

which meson
meson --version
type -a meson

When installed with pipx, which meson will normally resolve to:

/home/<user>/.local/bin/meson

hash -r clears Bash's cached command locations so the newly installed Meson executable can be selected.

Install using the quadra_quick_installer

  1. Change to the extracted Quadra release directory.

    cd Quadra_V*
  2. Run the quick installer.

    bash ./quadra_quick_installer.sh
  3. Confirm that the firmware and software release versions match the release you intend to install.

  4. From the quick installer menu, install the required items:

    • Setup environment variables
    • Install OS prerequisite packages
    • Install NVMe CLI
    • Install libxcoder
    • Install the required supported gstreamer-* version

Manual SDK Installation

Use this method when you want to use an existing supported GStreamer installation or need more control over the SDK installation.

Note: If the quick installer fails only because the active Meson version is too old, update Meson as described above and retry the quick installer first.

Install libxcoder

  1. Change to the libxcoder directory in the Quadra release package.

    cd Quadra_V*/Quadra_SW_V*/libxcoder
  2. Build and install libxcoder.

    bash build.sh
  3. Verify the installation.

    pkg-config --modversion xcoder

For additional information, see the Quadra libxcoder installation documentation.

Install or Use GStreamer

If a supported version of GStreamer is already installed, you can use the existing installation.

Verify the active GStreamer installation:

which gst-launch-1.0
gst-launch-1.0 --version
pkg-config --modversion gstreamer-1.0

If GStreamer is not installed, follow the official GStreamer build and installation instructions.

Before building GStreamer from source, verify the active Meson executable and version:

which meson
meson --version
type -a meson

If a newer Meson version is required:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y pipx ninja-build
pipx install meson
pipx ensurepath
export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"
hash -r

If Meson is already installed with pipx:

pipx upgrade meson
export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"
hash -r

Verify the Meson version that will actually be used:

which meson
meson --version
type -a meson

Install the NETINT GStreamer Plugins

  1. Change to the NETINT GStreamer plugin directory in the Quadra release package.

    cd Quadra_V*/Quadra_SW_V*/ni-gstreamer-plugins
  2. Build and install the plugins.

    ./build_ni_gst_plugins.sh --install
  3. Refresh the shared library cache.

    sudo ldconfig

Verify the Installation

Verify GStreamer and libxcoder:

gst-launch-1.0 --version
pkg-config --modversion gstreamer-1.0
pkg-config --modversion xcoder

Verify that GStreamer can discover the NETINT Quadra plugin:

gst-inspect-1.0 niquadra

Verify representative NETINT elements:

gst-inspect-1.0 niquadrah264dec
gst-inspect-1.0 niquadrah264enc
gst-inspect-1.0 niquadrascale

Optional compact pass/fail check:

gst-inspect-1.0 niquadrah264dec >/dev/null && \
gst-inspect-1.0 niquadrah264enc >/dev/null && \
gst-inspect-1.0 niquadrascale >/dev/null && \
echo "NETINT GStreamer plugins detected successfully"

If gst-inspect-1.0 niquadra cannot find the plugin, verify the active GStreamer plugin paths.

For a default /usr/local installation, the paths may include:

export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/:$PKG_CONFIG_PATH
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib/:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
export GST_PLUGIN_SYSTEM_PATH=/usr/local/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gstreamer-1.0
export GST_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/local/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gstreamer-1.0
