Install on Akamai VM

There are two ways to install Bitstreams on an Akamai VM instance. Both options will not require a Bitsteams license. NETINT has created StackScripts to help automate the process and there is an option to manually install Bitstreams.

StackScripts​

A pre-configured StackScript has been create to help automate the process. The stackscript will automatically install the latest release of Bitstreams.

  1. Create a new Akamai Linode Instance
  2. Select the "StackScripts" tab
  3. Select "Community StackScripts"
  4. Search for "NETINT"
  5. Select the desired NETINT StackScript
  6. Select one of the Accelerated (aka VPU) Plans
  7. Complete other fields are desired/required.
  8. After the VM has been created, Bitstreams will be automatically installed.

Manual​

Create VM​

  1. Create a new Akamai Linode Instance
  2. For the OS, select Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
  3. Select one of the Accelerated (aka VPU) Plans
  4. After the VM has been created, login into the instance

Install Dependencies​

  1. Install the following required dependencies

    apt install -y unzip nvme-cli sysfsutils

Install Docker​

  1. Install Docker using the apt repository as per the instructions provided by Docker

    If docker has not been installed, or installed incorrectly the Bitstreams will not properly install.

Download Release​

  1. Download the Bitstreams Release

    Download: x86_64 / amd64 

    wget https://releases.netint.com/edge/5F4HFJPAPWM39HP/Bitstreams_Edge_v2.8.0_x86.zip

  2. Extract the software package and enter the directory.

    unzip Bitstreams_Edge_v2.8.0_x86.zip
    cd  ~/Bitstreams_Edge_v2.8.0_x86

Install Script​

  1. Use the quick install script as shown below:

    It is not possible for the edge_quick_install.py script to automatically upgrade the Quadra VPU, if an upgrade is attempted the install script will fail. To avoid this you will need to skip the firmware upgrade with the --skip-firmware-upgrade parameter.

    # Basic usage
    ./edge_quick_install.py <ipv4Addr> {http,https} --skip-firmware-upgrade

    # Example installation
    ./edge_quick_install.py 10.0.100.10 http --skip-firmware-upgrade

    # For advanced features and to view all options
    ./edge_quick_install.py -h

  2. Run the installation script using the basic install process ./edge_quick_install.py 10.0.100.10 http --skip-firmware-upgrade, where you replace 10.0.100.10 with your server's IP address.

  3. Follow the instructions in the installation script to complete the process.

  4. Once the installation is complete and successful, you should see:

  5. If requested, a reboot may be required.

  6. Check the status using docker ps, the output should look similar to the one below.

Access User Interface​

  1. Log into the Bitstreams User Interface using the server IP that you entered during the installation, eg: http://10.0.100.10.

    Bitstreams has only one default user and currently does not support creating additional users.
